Lewis Hamilton Pays Tribute to Black Women in the Arts with Powerful Statement at Met Gala 2025

At the Met Gala 2025, Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton once again made a statement far beyond fashion. The seven-time world champion and British motorsport icon, who served as a co-chair at this year’s gala, honored the legacy of Black creativity and cultural influence by purchasing his own table, an act of generosity and purpose he’s known for since his impactful appearance at the Met Gala 2021.
In keeping with the 2025 Met Gala theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, Hamilton used his platform not just to dazzle on the Met Gala red carpet, but to celebrate and uplift Black women who have redefined art, fashion, and storytelling. Among those seated at his personally funded table were icons like Lauryn Hill, Regina King, Jordan Casteel, Ming Smith, Adrienne Warren, Danielle Deadwyler, Lorna Simpson, and Radhika Jones, editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair.
“You can’t talk about Black aesthetics, Black dandyism, or Black art without honoring the women who shaped and carried it,” Hamilton shared on social media. “This year, my goal was to be surrounded by Black women whose brilliance and creativity move me—visionaries whose work holds both history and infinite possibility.”

As a dominant force in both F1 history and modern culture, Hamilton continues to use his influence to challenge norms and push for representation. His gesture at the Met Gala 2025 was a follow, up to his 2021 initiative, where he bought a full table to spotlight emerging Black designers, a move that received wide acclaim in both the fashion and motorsport worlds.
This year, with Met Gala ticket prices starting at $350,000 per table, his decision carried even more weight. But for Hamilton, it wasn’t about status, it was about legacy.
Hamilton also expressed gratitude to Grace Wales Bonner, the Costume Institute at The Met, and his fellow co-chairs, adding: “We’ve always been here. We’ve always been fly. And now, we’re seen.”
“This year’s theme reflects royalty, ancestry, and the sacred power of adornment,” he wrote, reflecting on the gala’s deeper message. “Materials like ivory and cowrie shells aren’t just decorative, they’re vessels of identity, protection, and reverence. I’m honored to co-chair an event that highlights the artistry and soul of Black fashion.”
From Formula 1 podiums to fashion’s biggest night, Lewis Hamilton at the Met Gala 2025 proved that true style is about substance, purpose, and pride.
