After following a tour of capital cities and their interactions during the tour left them "quite optimistic" regarding the prospects of countries coming together to collaborate on AI initiatives.

"I came to the trip... skeptical that it was going to be possible in the short term to get global cooperation to reduce existential risk but I am now wrapping up the trip feeling quite optimistic we can get it done," Sam Altman in Tokyo.


The public representative of the startup, which has received support from Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O), has been actively engaged in a fast-paced tour, aiming to leverage the growing interest in generative AI and shape the regulatory landscape surrounding this emerging technology. The purpose of this whirlwind tour is to capitalize on the momentum surrounding generative AI and exert influence on the regulation and governance of this rapidly developing field. By actively engaging with stakeholders and decision-makers, the startup seeks to position itself as a key player in shaping the future of generative AI while also ensuring responsible and effective regulation of this technology.



In April, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, visited Japan and had a meeting with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. During the meeting, Altman expressed his interest in potentially opening an office in the country. He mentioned that the conversations regarding this matter have been progressing well, although he did not provide specific details about the discussions.


Despite being known for its manufacturing heavyweights investing in automation technology, Japan is considered somewhat behind in terms of AI services that are currently generating excitement among consumers. However, Altman acknowledged the country's rich history of humans and machines working together, indicating a potential for future advancements in AI technologies in Japan.


Following his visit to Japan, Altman has plans to continue his tour by visiting Singapore, Indonesia, and Australia before returning to the United States. This global tour showcases OpenAI's efforts to engage with various countries and explore opportunities for collaboration and expansion in the field of AI.
