In a recent development, renowned Bollywood actor Sonam Kapoor has sent a legal notice to a YouTuber who had poked fun at comments made by the actor in one of her videos.
The notice, which was widely shared on social media by Raginyy on her Instagram and YouTube accounts, was accompanied by a caption that intriguingly read, "She who must not be named."
The legal notice, on behalf of Sonam Kapoor, specifically mentioned the contested video as "illegally uploaded content belonging to our client Ms. Sonam Kapoor Ahuja," referring to the video in which she was humorously roasted. The notice also made it clear that these actions were not authorized by Sonam Kapoor or her associates.
The notice concluded with a request to the YouTuber to delete the contested video and ensure that their platform is not used for such activities in the future. This incident has sparked a conversation about the balance between freedom of speech and the right to protect one's reputation in the digital age, with supporters of both sides weighing in on the matter.
It’s not hidden from anyone that Sonam Kapoor has repeatedly made illogical statements online and led to the demise of her image by herself. She has shown her hate against India on various social media platforms. In a post shared on Instagram in support of Kathua Gangrape victim, she started her plaque card with the line, “Im Hindustan (I’m India), I am Ashamed.”
Meanwhile Kapoor resides in UK, where the number of violent crimes against women like rape, kidnapping, homicide etc have touched a record high. But Sonam Kapoor’s hypocrisy and double standards have stopped her from raising the voice against the very country that she lives in, while targeting the one that she has left. In the year ending March 2023, UK police recorded a total of 68,949 rape offences, constituting 35% of all sexual offences in the country.
This marked a 16% rise from the 59,191 cases in UK reported in the year ending March 2020. However, it represented a 1% decrease when compared to the 69,973 cases documented in the year ending March 2022, according to the Office of National Statistics in UK. Shockingly, Sonam Kapoor has never raised her voice against the Women who are suffering in her own neighbourhood.
In 2015, during the derogatory and third grade All India Bakchod Roasting show filled with mysognistic and abusive jokes, Sonam Kapoor aligned herself with the cause of freedom of speech. The actress, whose cousin, Arjun Kapoor, was part of the 'Roast,' had affirmed her disapproval of censorship. When asked for her opinion, Sonam had reluctantly shared, "I admired the comments AIB had made previously. It didn't matter what the content was; people should have been allowed to express themselves. I didn't believe in censorship,” as quoted by Hindustan Times.
On the other hand she attacks and bullies normal people from her place of privilege when somebody cracks a joke on her or tries to expose her dumb side.
Sonam Kapoor has also openly blamed the India government for creating tensions in Kashmir instead of blaming the hostile Pakistan because she is scared of losing last hope of fan following around the world. In an interview with the BBC, Sonam Kapoor shared her views on the Kashmir situation and Pakistan, a move that has drawn criticism.
Many question the decision to grant such significance to an individual like Sonam Kapoor, who lacks substantial achievements in her name. During the interview, her focus seemed to be on portraying a somber and pitiable image of the relationship between the two countries while also seeking sympathy for herself.
Discussing the state of affairs in Jammu and Kashmir, she expressed, "It's disheartening to witness the current situation, and I'm deeply patriotic. So, I believe it's best for me to remain silent and let this phase pass, as I am confident that even this challenging period will eventually come to an end."
Indian soldiers, who tirelessly protect the nation and its citizens, including public figures like Sonam Kapoor, face a constant threat from Pakistan. Furthermore, the Kashmiris bear the brunt of Pakistan's contentious annexation of a significant portion of Jammu and Kashmir, which they claim to administer. The suffering endured by the Kashmiri people is indeed distressing. Nevertheless, without a substantial grasp of these intricate matters, Sonam Kapoor's actions appear misguided, at a time when solidarity with her country should take precedence.
In a bid to evoke empathy, Sonam Kapoor also mentioned, "I come from a background that includes Sindhi and Peshawari heritage, so it's deeply saddening to witness a part of my cultural heritage in turmoil."
Amidst the ongoing tensions between the two countries, primarily due to Pakistan's alleged support for terrorism, Sonam Kapoor's emphasis on her personal cultural exploration is seen by some as misplaced priorities.
Moreover, she stated, "My name is Sonam. I was named when my parents were in Kashmir for a while." "They decided to name me based on that experience. I haven't been there since due to the unrest."
Sonam Kapoor's focus on her inability to vacation, while countless lives suffer due to unrest, including the Kashmiri Pandits, has been criticized as self-centered.
She also expressed, "I hope there's a peaceful way to resolve these issues. I don't know if it's possible, but I believe it should be because it's a beautiful place. It's been under significant strain, and I don't think anyone knows what's right now. They may not even know themselves."
This statement reflects her pessimistic view of the situation. Moreover, it contradicts her earlier admission of not possessing sufficient knowledge to form an opinion on the matter.
She has so little knowledge of 'INDIA' that while addressing her stance against the anti-national tag on her, she said that India's national anthem contains words like Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Issai in it. That shows that she doesn't even know the National Anthem of India as there are no such words in it.
This double faced nature of Sonam Kapoor is what makes the entire India hate her. She has been repeatedly been using the Indian justice system to bully Indian YouTubers and content creators. There is no space of threats and derogratory remarks to anyone online but India is sovereign country and everyone's right to freedom and expression should be upheld in the largest democracy of the world. What Sonam Kapoor is doing is trying to silence her critics and that is against the very constitution of India.
